The Malta International Tour continued on Saturday, with a Road race on the San Martin circuit, an 88 km for Elite (10 laps) and a 53 km for Ladies and Masters race (6 laps).
It was the Swiss Dominic Kunz, of Amore e Vita – KIBAG-Obor, who in a final sprint between four cyclists won the second stage in a time of 2:32:44.
Kunz finished a fraction of a second ahead of his team-mate Johannes Glameyer while Maltese-Australian Dan Bonello, of Team Oleka, completed the podium.
Still, Bonello managed to retain the overall leadership of the tour with a combined time of two hours 55 minutes, and two seconds.
British rider Matilde Pauls, of 1904RT – UK, made it two wins out of two when she topped the women’s category.
Pauls completed the six-lap race in a time of one hour 46 minutes and 59 seconds.
Second place went to another Englishwoman, Gabriella Nordin, of Team Jadan – UK, who crossed the finish line in 1:47:29.
Malta’s Marie Claire Aquilina, of Team Greens, finished third when completing the course in 1:47:44.
Pauls held the lead in the women’s standings with a combined time of 2:11:31.
In the Masters category, Englishman Dave Mitchinson, of Cinnamon Café Contour Cycles Drunk Race Team – UK, crossed the finish line first in 1:39:38.
Etienne Bonello, of Team Greens, finished just behind him, while Englishman Martin Lawless (Cycle Club Ashwell) was third in a time of 1:39:43.
Mitchinson retained command of the Masters classification with a time of 2:02:26, ten seconds ahead of Bonello.
At the end of this stage, the red medals and jerseys were presented to all the winners by Daniel Borg Olivier, Treasurer of the Malta Cycling Federation.
The Tour ends on Sunday, on the Żebbuġ Bypass circuit with a Road Race over a distance of 63.5 kilometers for Elite (15 laps) and 43 kilometers for Ladies and Masters ( 12 turns).
The start of the races will be at 8.00am.
