Watch: Ben Camille discovers the fascinating world of polo

Ben Camille has discovered the sport of polo during this week’s edition of GAMEON.

Steve Vassallo, the founder of the Island Polo Club, spoke about his initiative to take the sport to Montekristo where they created a small community who love to practise the game of polo in the new surroundings.

“Here, at Montekristo we are a very small community who love the sport of polo,” Vassallo said.

“I introduced the sport of polo here at Montekristo because I felt that here it is far easier to train and practise this discipline than at Marsa.

“When one starts to play polo inevitably one ends up addicted to the game. The adrenaline one feels is very strong and continues to grow the more you continue to play.

“In polo, it is important that one understands his horse and its needs as at the end of the day they need to be a team to succeed.

“Here, anyone who wants to play polo doesn’t need to own a horse. Everyone can come and hire one for a couple hours. These horse here are well trained to ensure they can behave well with beginners.”

Hottest games predictions

The challenge between Ben Camille and Times of Malta Sports Editor Valhmor Camilleri is heating up, as they continue trying to predict the results of the hottest games happening this weekend.

How did they do last week?

Valhmor Camilleri extended his lead over Ben Camille after week 12 of the hottest games of the week challenge.

In fact, Valhmor Camilleri managed to predict that Arsenal would beat Manchester United, Inter would prevail over Roma and that Milan would take the spoils Lazio to end the week with 30 points.

Ben Camille, on the other hand, predicted that Inter would beat Roma to finish the week with ten points.

Total Scores after week 12

In the overall standings, Valhmor Camilleri leads the way with 500 points while Ben Camille is trailing with 390 points.

We will keep you updated with a tally of their scores every week. A correct result (picking a win, draw or defeat) is worth 10 points. The exact score earns 40 points.

Newcastle vs Liverpool (Saturday at 13.30)

Liverpool will step up their bid to turn the title race in their favour when they travel to Newcastle.

The Reds are currently just one point adrift of Manchester City but can go top for a few hours at least if they win at Newcastle, but the Magpies have won their last six home games to storm into the top half of the table since beginning to splash the cash of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund in January.

Jurgen Klopp gave Liverpool fans even more cause for celebration by extending his contract at Anfield for a further two years to 2026 on Thursday.

However, the German is far from happy at the scheduling of a lunchtime kick-off just three days after a Champions League semi-final.

“It’s brutal but it’s fine. It’s the best situation you can have,” said Klopp.

“Just go for the next one and try to play the best football you can.”

Ben Camille’s prediction: Newcastle vs Liverpool 0-2.

Valhmor Camilleri’s prediction: Newcastle vs Liverpool 0-3.

Milan vs Fiorentina (Sunday at 15.00)

AC Milan host Fiorentina on Sunday knowing that the destiny of the Serie A crown is in their hands after a howler from reserve goalkeeper Ionut Radu left Inter’s title defence hanging by a thread.

Last champions in 2011, Milan became favourites for the Scudetto without even kicking a ball on Wednesday after Inter’s incredible 2-1 defeat at Bologna left the champions two points behind their local rivals.

Few could believe their eyes when Radu, in his first Serie A start of the season in place of the injured Samir Handanovic, misjudged a throw-in under pressure from Nicola Sansone to the point that the Italy international was able to tap in the winner from inches out.

Meanwhile audible cheers went up around the ‘Rosssonero’ half of Milan as the momentum swung clearly in their side’s favour.

Three wins and a draw from their final four fixtures will guarantee the title thanks to Olivier Giroud’s brace in February’s derby ensured Milan have the better head-to-head record should both teams finish on the same points.

Ben Camille’s prediction: Milan vs Fiorentina 2-0

Valhmor Camilleri’s prediction: Milan vs Fiorentina 1-1.

Hibernians vs Birkirkara (Sunday at 15.00)

Hibernians will have their eyes firmly set on clinching maximum spoils when they face Birkirkara on Sunday as victory at the National Stadium would crown the Paolites as the new Malta champions.

The Paolites are currently enjoying a four-point lead over nearest rivals Floriana and irrespective of what the Greens will do in Saturday’s match against Ħamrun Spartans, Hibernians will secure the title crown with victory over third-placed Birkirkara.

However, Hibernians are sure that they will not have all their way as they face a Birkirkara side who are desperate for the three points as they look to fend off Ħamrun Spartans with whom they are currently sharing third spot which yields a direct entry to the UEFA Conference League qualifiers this summer.

Birkirkara, now under the charge of Jonathan Holland, will hope to build on their solid showing in the goalless draw against Floriana as they look to end the campaign on a high note.

Ben Camille’s prediction: Hibernians vs Birkirkara 1-0.

Valhmor Camilleri’s prediction: Hibernians vs Birkirkara 2-0.
