Maltese Abroad – Lipman scores winning goal for Como Women, key win for Sciberras’ Tavagnacco in Serie B

Malta women’s captain Emma Lipman handed Como Women a crucial 1-0 victory against Cittadella in the Serie B Femminile.

She scored the all-important goal with a towering header to open her 2021/2022 account at the club.

Following this win, Como have now cut the gap to just one point behind leaders Brescia who lost 2-1 to Ravenna. Only the Serie B champion is ensured of a promotion into Italy’s top-flight.

Meanwhile, Nicole Sciberras played in Tavagnacco’s important game against Cesena in Italy’s second-tier.

The former Juventus player was deployed from the start as Tavagnacco claimed a narrow 1-0 victory to rescue their Serie B status with three games left.

Martina Borg also played from the start for Roma Calcio Femminile, who are already relegated, as they hosted Cortefranca in the Italian second-tier.

Borg played a full game as Roma CF picked up a point to move to 11 points.

Carabott’s side faced MK Dons at the Stadium MK with the home side emerging winners 5-1. The Maltese player came on at the start of the second half as Keynsham Town will be playing fourth-tier football next season.

In Belgium, Teddy Teuma captained Royal Union St Gilloise as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Royal Antwerp.

Teuma’s side have now 43 points after playing their first two games in the Championship round.

A missed opportunity for Zach Muscat’s Casa Pia who lost 1-0 against promotion rivals Rio Ave in Portugal’s second-tier.

Casa Pia slip into third – outside the automatic promotion spot – with 62 points. Rio Ave now lead with 64 while Chaves are second on 63.

Elsewhere, young player Leonardo Agius came on for Team Ticino U-21’s in Switzerland’s fourth-tier.

The former KVC Westerlo entered the field in the 85th minute with Team Ticino grabbing a winner in the 97th minute against FC Gossau.
