Team Malta participated in the 24th edition of the Mediterranean Bowling Championships (MBC) 2022 in Athens, Greece between May 1 and 8 and came back home with four medals around their necks.
Team Malta consisted of four top bowlers, namely Mauro Anastasi, Rankin Camilleri, Cynthia Frendo Duca, and Melissa Swift. They were accompanied by their national coach Rick Vogelesang and the President of the Malta Bowling Association (MBA) Edward Mifsud.
Participating against 14 other federations in seven events, Team Malta managed to win two silver medals and two bronze medals over four different categories.
Anastasi and Camilleri won the first bronze medal together in the Men’s Doubles after finishing just one pin ahead of the Spanish team.
The Women’s Doubles then saw Team Malta win its first silver medal of this year’s edition of the MBC as Cynthia Frendo Duca and Melissa Swift managed to take second place in the final frame of the six-game block.
Melissa Swift went on to win another two medals for Team Malta – one silver in the MBC All Events category and one bronze in the MBC Master’s Event.
The All Events category is based off the total 24 games played while the Master’s Event was based on a two-game knockout format played between the Top 8 men and women respectively.
Swift, therefore, reached the podium three times for Team Malta to secure the first EBF medals of her career.
