
About 70 drivers competed in the first round of the Enemed National Drag Racing Championship, which was organized at the Ħal Far track by the Malta Drag Racing Association last weekend.
Various vehicles from cars, dragsters and even motorcycles competed in different classes.
Matthias Caruana won the Open Class 1 while John Martin topped the Open Class 6 and Index Class 1.
Garry Camilleri took the honours in the CA6 Class and Extreme 3 Class, Wayne Scicluna placed first in the Front Wheel Drive Open Class.
George Vella and Stephen Xuereb won the SM2 and SM4 Classes.
Roderick Fenech was declared winner of the D4 Class while Clifton Abdilla topped the D5 and DTA 5 Classes.
Alan Muscat was on top of the pile in the DTF Class, while Christian Pace and Mariano Ciantar won the Escort Classes 2 and 3. Sean Cassar topped the Index Class 2.
Kevin Gauci emerged triumphant in the Bracket between 11.50 and 11.99 seconds, Chris Mercieca was fastest in the Bracket between 11 and 11.49 seconds, Joe Ashton won the Bracket between 10.50 and 10.99 seconds, Jurgen Caruana topped the standings in the Bracket between 10 and 10.49 seconds.
Wayne Scicluna finished first in the 9.50 and 9.99 seconds.
John Martin, Lewis Vella and Stephen Xuereb automatically were declared winners as they had no rivals in their respective classes.
In the motorcycles categories, Briegel Micallef won the SS1 class, Valter Mallo won the Open class, Simon Giordmaina placed first in the Outlaw class, Leslie Said topped the Index 8.5 class.
Franklyn Borg won the TF Class while Chris Vella and Flavius Permit took the honours in the Brackets 8 to 8.40 seconds and 9 to 9.49 seconds.
The youngest driver, Luca Mangion won the Junior Dragster Class, while the best reaction time on the lights was that of Warren Gauci.
