Ben Camille met with a few members of the Alive Charity Foundation who recently embarked on an audacious challenge which saw them cycle around Sicily on a 1,000km course.
The initiative was made to collect money that will go for research to fight the disease of cancer.
“The Alive Charity Foundation is a group of people who find time to do physical activity and collect funds from which they will not benefit themselves but all the money will go for scientific research,” Mario Farrugia said in this week’s edition of Game On.
“Every year we have a different group of participants who are not necessarily established sportsmen. In fact, there are many who take up this challenge after they had just bought their first bicycle.”
Another member of the team was Pio Vassallo, a former football player with Mosta FC, who after hanging up his boots has started practising the sport of cycling and also took part in this year’s challenge.
“I never thought when I started practising cycling that I would be involved in such a challenge,” Vassallo said.
“I started slowly in the sport, taking one challenge after another. But the most remarkable thing about all this experience is the huge number of friends that I made through the sport of cycling.
“You meet a lot of persons of different abilities in the sport who are always there to help you and that is the best thing that can happen to you.”
Hottest games predictions
The challenge between Ben Camille and Times of Malta Sports Editor Valhmor Camilleri is heating up, as they continue trying to predict the results of the hottest games happening this weekend.
How did they do last week?
Valhmor Camilleri further extended his lead after week 16 of the hottest games of the week challenge.
In fact, Valhmor Camilleri predicted that Inter would beat Sampdoria 3-0 while also guessing that Liverpool would beat Wolves, Manchester City would overcome Aston Villa and Milan securing the win at Sassuolo to finish with 70 points.
On the other hand, Ben Camille guessed that Inter, Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool would claim victories to collect 40 points.
Total Scores after week 16
In the overall standings, Valhmor Camilleri leads the way with 640 points while Ben Camille is trailing with 510 points.
We will keep you updated with a tally of their scores every week. A correct result (picking a win, draw or defeat) is worth 10 points. The exact score earns 40 points.
Real Madrid vs Liverpool (Saturday at 21.00)
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are seeking to cap a remarkable season by avenging their 2018 defeat against Real Madrid when the sides meet again in the Champions League final in Paris on Saturday, but the Spanish giants have their sights on a 14th European Cup triumph.
It is Liverpool’s third Champions League final in five seasons, after they followed their 3-1 loss to Real in Kyiv by beating Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid a year later, and they are widely seen as slight favourites at the Stade de France to become kings of Europe for a seventh time.
That would put them level with AC Milan, with only Saturday’s opponents having won the trophy more often, and it would allow the Anfield club to finish the campaign with a treble after they lifted the English League Cup and FA Cup.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, cannot be underestimated particularly after their run in this season’s competition when they ousted the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Ben Camille’s prediction: Real Madrid vs Liverpool 2-2.
Valhmor Camilleri’s prediction: Real Madrid vs Liverpool 2-2.
Malta vs Venezuela (Wednesday at 19.00)
Malta will warm up for their UEFA Nations League commitments when they face Venezuela in an international friendly at the National Stadium.
Devis Mangia’s men are preparing themselves for a decisive run of matches in the UEFA Nations League when they face San Marino twice, home and away, and play hosts to Estonia at the National Stadium.
Although the task awaiting the Maltese players is very tough, as they face a team of a far superior technical qualities, the match will serve them in good stead ahead of a UEFA Nations League campaign that will hopefully see them as main challengers for promotion.
This will be the first time that Malta is facing a team from South America in an international match.
Ben Camille’s prediction: Malta vs Venezuela 1-0
Valhmor Camilleri’s prediction: Malta vs Venezuela 0-2.
Italy vs Argentina (Wednesday at 21.00)
Italy and Argentina will contest the first edition of the CONMEBOL/UEFA Cup of Champions at Wembley Stadium.
The match pits against each other European champions Italy with Argentina, the winners of the Cop America last summer.
For the Azzurri the match will be an opportunity to somewhat make up for their shock elimination from this year’s World Cup with victory at Wembley Stadium, the venue of their Euro 2020 triumph.
Roberto Mancini, the Italy coach, is expected to make use of some young players as he looks to rebuilt the team after the huge disappointment that brought with the defeat to Macedonia in the World Cup play-offs.
For Argentina, the match will be the first step towards their build up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and will relish the chance to lift the trophy which is being contested for the first time.
Ben Camille’s prediction: Italy vs Argentina 2-1
Valhmor Camilleri’s prediction: Italy vs Argentina 0-1.
