Cyber Classes provided thrilling action at Grand Harbour as rough seas thwarted racing hopes for the V2 Class at the Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championships.
The adverse weather conditions experienced on Friday meant that the first planned race of the second Grand Prix of the 2022 Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championships had to be cancelled.
“This was very disappointing for us, however we followed instructions from our safety crews who advised us to halt proceedings for today. We are hoping to make up for today’s disappointment tomorrow, Saturday,” said Aaron Ciantar, founder of Voomquest.
Whilst conditions were not in favour of the V2, the sheltered waters in the Grand Harbour made it possible to host extra races for the smaller but equally powerful and spectacular Cyber Class.
The class was split into two sections – Under and Over 21. Each one of them competed in two races, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
The first U21 Race was won by Team Bad Company driven by Rhys Grima, followed by Team Cece’s Lydon Buhagiar and followed by Isaac Abela driving Team Shamal.
The second race was won by Team The Element Celine Farrugia who had tough competition from Grima who was aiming for the second win of the day. In third place was Team Chaudron’s Hailey Ciantar.
In the Over 21 category, the first race was won by Team The Element driven by Audrien Ciantar who made a return to racing following an absence of seven years. Team Topo, driven by Jurgen Camilleri, came in second place whilst Miguel Abela driving Team Shamal finished in third place.
The afternoon race saw places change when Team El Diablo driven by Kieran Galea – who was competing in his first race – took the chequered flag for the afternoon.
He was followed by Clive Butler’s Team Bad Company and Team Topo’s Jurgen Camilleri in third place.
The V2 Class will be undertaking official testing on Saturday between 10.30 and noon, with racing planned for 14.00. All V2 activities will take place off the Sliema Seafront.
The Cyber Class will return in action in the Grand Harbour Saturday at 16.30.
The Voomquest UIM V2 World Championships are sponsored by Enemed and supported by Yachting Malta Ltd, Chaudron Powerboats, P&C Cauchi Demolition, Visit Malta, Preluna Skyroom, Premium Power Sport, and the Senglea Local Council.
