Hibernians FC are closing in on another major signing in the summer transfer window as they are in advanced talks to sign Nigerian forward Sunday Akinbule, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Paolites are looking to bring in a quality forward to their line-up ahead of their commitments in the UEFA Champions League where they have been drawn to face Irish champions Shamrock Rovers.
In the off-season, Hibernians have decided to rejuvenate their squad and have decided to part ways with French forward Wilfried Domoraud and Brazilian striker Hugo Vieira who were not offered a contract extension.
It is understood that Hibernians have set their sights of signing Akinbule and talks with the player are at an advanced stage.
Akinbule arrived in Malta last summer when he signed for Mosta.
The Nigerian forward turned out to be a valuable addition as with his pace and power he netted some crucial goals for the Blues as they successfully retained their status in the top flight for another season.
In fact, the 25-year-old made 18 appearances for Mosta last season, netting nine goals.
Throughout his career, Akinbule played in Portugal with a number of clubs before he had a spell in the Middle East with Al-Washm in Saudi Arabia.
In 2021 he returned to Europe where he joined Slovakian side Spartaks before heading to Belarus where he played for Soligorsk.
