Last season’s Men’s League finalists and Knock-Out winners Mellieha Libertas have appointed Italian coach Christian Narciso, the club announced on Monday.
Narciso, having coached in Denmark and Sardinia last season, joins the squad ahead of the coming 2022-23 season in which Libertas will be looking to continue their progress after reaching new heights under Adrian Mifsud, appointed club secretary on Saturday.
The move for the 33-year-old coach was confirmed on the club’s socials with the official statement pushing the idea that “the youngest club, with the youngest president, can only have the youngest coach”.
“Mellieha Basketball Club is proud to announce Christian Narciso as head coach for next season,” the statement read.
“Christian (Narciso) is 33 years old, from Naples with already a vast experience in basketball. He started off as an assistant coach with Naples, in the Italian women’s league A2. Following this, he was also head coach of various Italian men’s teams in Serie D and C, and also in Denmark where he achieved 2 consecutive promotions from third division till first division. In the last 2 years he was head of the Youth Academy in Oristano (Sardinia – Italy).
“We are sure he will bring his knowledge and enthusiasm to help the team continue moving forward.”
Narciso has had numerous experiences in his native Italy, most recently with Azzurra Basket Oristano, but had been since 2017 been part of Danish setups at youth level and the third division before Oristano.
