Two Swedish Euro 2022 players, Hanna Glas and Emma Kullberg, have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Friday’s quarter final match against Belgium, the Swedish Football Association said Wednesday.
Glas, who has been in the starting line-up in all of Sweden’s games, and Kullberg tested positive together with the team’s sports psychologist Rasmus Liljeblad.
“The three persons will be kept separate from the team and continuously monitored to be able to return to the team as soon as possible,” the association said in a statement.
“Once they don’t show symptoms, have taken a negative antigen test and clear our internal health check they are welcome back,” team doctor Houman Ebrahimi said.
After a slow start, Sweden clicked into gear with a 5-0 thrashing of Portugal on Sunday that secured the top spot in Group C.
The Olympic silver medallists are strong favourites heading into the quarter finals against Belgium, who have made it to the knockout stages of a women’s tournament for the first time.
However, the Belgians are a rapidly improving side under Ives Serneels as they showed in running France close and beating Italy in the group stages.
