Mexico winger Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona will miss this year’s World Cup after suffering a broken leg and a torn left ankle ligament in training with his club, Sevilla said on Thursday.
The Spanish club said the player would undergo surgery in the afternoon and added that “in principle, this type of injury requires a recovery period of between four and five months.”
The World Cup kicks off in Qatar on November 20.
Tecatito, who is 29, joined Sevilla from Porto in January.
He has played 71 times for Mexico, scoring 10 goals.
He made two appearances, both off the bench, at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
