Depiro BC will have a second Cameron on their roster’s newest player list as, after the signing of Kameron Rooks earlier on in the month, the Mtarfa side confirmed US guard Cameron Cornelius.
Depiro sign US centre Kameron Rooks
Despite the contrasting letter in their names, Cornelius also comes to Malta on the back of another professional experience in Europe, this time with Focsani in the Romanian Division A.
The 6’0 guard last played with Focsani in the 2019-20 season before the COVID-19 pandemic and will be looking to revive his career in Malta with the Mtarfa club.
The club will be hoping to find stability in the 29-year-old player after encountering player problems last season regarding import players. They will also be looking to turn the page after a tanking incident during the last six minutes of their final regular season game which saw them get kicked out of the playoffs together with second-seed Hibernians.
Watch: Depiro appoint Brian Semonian as men’s head coach
Since then, the club has replaced coach James Bamford with US mentor Brian Semonian and is banking on signings like Cornelius and Rooks to build around the various local talent, including Malta international Miguel Brincat, who debuted for the senior national team over the summer in the FIBA Small Countries Games.
