The Malta FA is currently holding its first ever female Grassroots Leaders Course this week.
The Malta FA Coach Education Department together with the Department for Women’s Football are aiming to have more licensed female coaches in Malta.
This course is the first step in the MFA Coach Education Pathway and is a basic introduction to youth football coaching aimed at persons who are currently coaching a grassroots team or looking to get into coaching.
It is designed to help the coach to create a safe, fun, and positive football environment during football sessions with the younger age groups.
Sessions included generic sessions such as teaching football trough games and FUNdamentals in Youth Football, and specific ones aimed for women’s football such as coaching female footballers. This course even delved into safeguarding children with a specific session about this topic.
Tutors for this female-only course were varied and included Andrea Vella, Ivan Woods, Herman Bugeja, Charles Sciberras, Jareth Grima, Vince Galea, and Emerson Farrugia together with Women’s Football Director Pierre Brincat.
