Watch: El Diablo undisputed winner of Voomquest V2 Powerboat Championships in Cervia

The final day of the 2022 Voomquest Enemed V2 Powerboat Championships saw teams enjoy the best weather conditions of the weekend, meaning that they were able to race 10 laps of the course.   

Clive Butler and Sammy Grima’s El Diablo were once again in top form to lead the way to complete a hat-trick of wins in Cervia, Italy.

Aaron Ciantar’s wild card entry Chaudron followed suit, finishing in second place.  

Whilst Ciantar’s co-driver Ryan Micallef, who suffered a slight injury on Friday, was able to complete practice training in the morning, it was substitute co-driver Jurgen Camilleri to take his place beside Ciantar in the afternoon. 

Chaudron once again finished behind El Diablo.

Consistently, Interceptor Remax’s Michael Xuereb and Sam Howes finished in third place.  

Interceptor Remax raced tactically throughout the weekend, keeping behind wild card entry Chaudron and maintaining a safe distance from Jesmond Aquilina and Christian Galea’s Marine Diffusion. 

This permitted Interceptor Remax to place on the daily podium as well as gain valuable points enabling them to take second place in the overall leaderboard.

All in all, the boats produced a fine showing, pushing the boats to the limit but without damages that allowed them all to race throughout the whole weekend.

As the final day of the third Grand Prix for 2022 concluded, the overall classification showed that El Diablo is the team to beat this year as they lead the way with a further 60 points added to their overall points tally. 

Voomquest organisers also announced that Team Freccia Blu, who until the second Grand Prix were in second place of the overall classification, withdrew from the V2 World Championships. 

“This weekend was the perfect opportunity to showcase the V2 World Championship circuit away from Maltese waters. Although we missed the generous and warm support Maltese supporters give us when racing in Malta, this event provided much needed international exposure for Voomquest as well work towards expanding the brand abroad,” said Ciantar, the Voomquest Founder.  “Personally, it was exhilarating to be on the water racing with the teams, who put their heart and soul into Voomquest. I thank all those involved for being part of our Voomquest Family”

The fourth and final Grand Prix of the 2022 World Championships will take place on the weekend of October 14 and will take place in Como, Milan.

The Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championship is held under the auspices of the world governing body Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and is supported by Enemed, Yachting Malta, Malta Tourism Authority, Chaudron Powerboats, and Virtu Ferries.
