England heading to the National Stadium on June 16
The Malta national team are set for high-profile start to their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers as they host Italy on March 26 and then will face England at the National Stadium on June 16.
After Sunday’s draw, which pitted Malta in the same qualifying section with Italy and England in Group C, there was a huge expectation among the Maltese fans to see when Roberto Mancini’s Italian side and Gareth Southgate’s England will be making the trip to our islands to face the national team.
Representatives from the five teams in Group C, which also include North Macedonia and Ukraine, held talks on Sunday with UEFA to line up the programme of fixtures and after several hours of negotiations the fixture schedule was published on Monday.
Malta will kick off its Group C commitments on March 23 when they travel to North Macedonia while on the same day, the two powerhouses in the group, Italy and England go head to head in the Italian peninsula.
However, for the Maltese fans the first major fixture in this group will be on March 26 when the Azzurri, the current European champions, will travel to Malta to face the home side at the National Stadium.
Malta’s next fixture in the group is another bumper occasion for the Maltese fans when the national team will host England on June 16.
No doubt, these two home fixtures against Italy and England are expected to see a packed National Stadium as the Maltese football fans will be desperate to see these two powerhouses in world football in action at Ta’ Qali.
The national team will complete their June commitments with an away fixture against Ukraine in a venue that is yet to be announced as it is certainly unlikely that the match will be played in the former Soviet Republic due to the ongoing Russian invasion.
Malta will be again in action at home on September 12 when they host North Macedonia.
In October, the Malta national team are set for a tough trip to Italy to face the home side on October 14, a fixture which is likely to see hundreds of Maltese fans making the journey to watch the Maltese side in action.
On October 17, Malta will be again in action, this time on home soil when they host Ukraine.
Malta will have a prestigious final fixture to wrap up their commitments in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers when on November 17 they head to London to face England at Wembley Stadium, in what promises to be another memorable occasion for the national team players and fans.
