Swieqi United made a return to the local futsal scene as they saw off the University of Malta 7-4 in the first round of matches from the Enemed Futsal League.
It was a well-contested match with University of Malta, who at times managed to surge ahead. But Swieqi managed to capitalise on their opponents’ defensive frailties to turn the match around.
No doubt these two sides are expected to be battling for the final honours alongside Luxol St Andrews this season.
Brayan Stiven was Swieqi’s talisman player as he netted a hat-trick with Justin Theuma hitting the target twice. Emerson Molina and an own goal completed the score for the Owls.
University of Malta had Leo Muscat netting a brace while Steven Camilleri and Andre Cachia were also on the mark.
Ta’ Xbiex Futsal started their commitments in a positive way as they obtained a 13-3 win over Malta U-19.
Karl Sciortino was on target six times for Ta’ Xbiex while Stefi Cale and Redeemer Borg helped themselves with a brace. Ivan Delgado, Melvin Borg and Christian Wismayer rounded up their team’s scoreline.
Shiraz Attard, Colin Sammut u Glen Gauci were on the scoresheet for Malta U-19.
Żurrieq Futsal obtained a 4-2 win over St George’s Futsal.
The Reds surged into a four-goal lead with St George’s only managing to pull two goals back to suffer defeat.
Żurriq’s goals came from Kurt Darmanin, Boycho Marev, Gabriel Ghigo and an own goal.
St George’s reduced the arrears through Sean Parnis and Karl Schembri.
Marsaskala won the battle of the south against Fgura United 3-2 in a well-fought encounter.
Fgura were always in front but a late rally by the Southsiders helped them get the points that mattered.
Denim Parnis, Dylan Caruana and Ryan Pisani put their names on the scoresheet for Marsaskala while Matthew Camilleri and Valen Petri McKay were Fgura’s scorers.
