Malta women champions Birkirkara have agreed terms with an Argentine forward from top-flight side Huracán, according to reports from Argentina.
Brisa Campos, 24, has reportedly put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the 2023/2024 season and is expected to join her new team mates in the training sessions as from next week.
“The truth is that I can’t believe it, I still don’t know what it means to play in the (UEFA) Champions League, maybe when I’m on top of the plane I’ll finish dreaming,” Campos said in a personal statement.
“Hopefully I continue to do well and that I can enjoy all these things that are happening to me.”
For the Argentine forward, this will be her first experience outside her native country. She started her career in Alsina de Chivilcoy before having spells at All Boys and Velez.
Campos has also plied her trade at bigger clubs like Racing and Independiente before joining Huracán. She signed for them in 2021, scoring twice in the Apertura and five teams in the Clausura tournament.
The following year, Campos found the net on seven occasions and her commanding showings caught the attention of UAI Urquiza, one of the main title challengers in Argentine football.
Nonetheless, it seems that the 24-year-old striker is keen to join the 10-time Maltese champions who currently enjoy a five-point lead at the top of the Assikura Women’s League.
Last summer, they became the first Maltese club to record a win in the UEFA Women’s Champions League while last Friday, they hosted Women’s Super League side Manchester United in front of a record attendance for a women’s game in Malta of 1,053 spectators.
