Birkirkara and Swieqi United resumed where they left off last week after picking up victories in this week’s Assikura Women’s League games.
Both teams secured 2-0 wins as they dispatched of Raiders Lija and Hibernians respectively.
The Stripes scored a goal in each half through Argentine forward Brisa Campos – her fourth in two games – and Marta Grosso, her first for Birkirkara.
Jose Borg’s side, who are now leading with 29 points, had a new face on the bench in French player Clotilde Bergeron.
Raiders Lija, on their part, have now lost their fifth game of the season as they remain on 16 points.
Swieqi United found the net twice through in-form Jade Flask to beat Hibernians and keep their three-point distance from leaders Birkirkara.
The Owls missed an early opportunity to forge ahead when Dorianne Theuma failed to convert from the penalty spot.
Swieqi’s captain made up to it with two well-weighted deliveries from set-pieces that Flask capitalised onto as she remains the league’s best scorer with 14 goals.
Hibernians maintain their third place with 19 points.
Meanwhile, San Ġwann halted their winless run in the league after picking up their first victory of the season.
Julia Egging scored a first-half goal to hand San Ġwann a narrow victory over Mtarfa as both teams are now level on three points after 11 games.
San Ġwann were guided by Raymond Sant who has replaced previous coach Jean Paul Attard until the end of the season.
They also had a new face in their starting formation as they handed a debut to newly-arrived goalkeeper Justyne Caruana from Raiders Lija.
