Birkirkara and Swieqi United continued their winning form as they recorded victories in Matchday 14 of the Assikura Women’s League.
It was the final women’s league round of fixtures before the February international window with Malta set to make their debut under the new guidance of Manuela Tesse.
The Italian coach will lead the team in a couple of international friendlies against Luxembourg on February 17 and February 20, at the Centenary Stadium.
Wednesday’s game from Matchday 14, between Mtarfa and Mġarr United, was called off due to the inclement weather that hit the Maltese islands.
Birkirkara remain leaders of the championship with 32 points after 12 games.
They broke little sweat to defeat San Ġwann 7-0, with Argentine forward Brisa Campos scoring another hat-trick after hitting three goals in her debut game against Mtarfa.
Birkirkara’s other goals were scored by Ruth Steer-Chetham, Veronique Mifsud, Gabriella Zahra and Stephania Farrugia.
In the second half, coach Jose Borg handed a debut to French midfielder Clotilde Bergeron as well.
On the other hand, San Ġwann had a number of players in their starting formation that joined the club last month namely goalkeeper Justyne Caruana together with Yasmin Attard, Chanice Grixti and Maria Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, Swieqi United kept Birkirkara within touching distance after beating Raiders Lija 4-1.
Forward Jade Flask scored another brace following her two goals against Hibernians as she cemented her top spot in the league’s scoring charts with 16 goals.
The Malta international scored The Owls’s first and fourth goal. In between, Swieqi found the net via Dorianne Theuma and Shona Zammit.
Hannah Khatib, who swapped Swieqi for Raiders Lija in January, was the goalscorer for Denis Guerra’s side.
