Birkirkara women have stamped their authority in the Assikura Women’s League after fending off second-place Swieqi United with a narrow 1-0 victory, on Wednesday.
Their 82nd positive result in a row in the domestic league has allowed Birkirkara to open a six-point advantage as Jose Borg’s team are now in the driving seat for an 11th title.
The Stripes have five games left to wrap up their campaign in style with a tricky test against Mġarr United awaiting them next Tuesday.
Brisa Campos, the Argentine forward who joined in January, scored the all-important goal for Birkirkara in the second half.
She has now already scored eight goals for Birkirkara as her arrival continues to pay dividends week after week.
Swieqi, who in the first half created a lot of important goal scoring opportunities, were unfortunate to lose Ghana goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan after picking up a serious injury late in the game.
Before the game, Birkirkara’s forward Sara Saliba was presented with two individual accolades after winning both the senior and U-21’s leagues Player of the Month awards.
Hibernians maintained their third spot with a comfortable victory over Mtarfa, scoring seven goals without reply.
