The Malta Football Association organised a special event at the Rabat Primary School (St Nicholas College) to commemorate World Obesity Day, on Friday.
In line with its commitment towards contributing for a healthier Maltese society, the Malta FA made sure to meet local children and shed light on the importance of sports.
The participant class from the Rabat Primary School is one of the three that is part of the newly-launched Fun Fit Five pilot project that includes also classes from Pieta’ and Żejtun.
This study sees 45 children from three different schools taking part in daily physical activities, with an ongoing study conducted by researchers at MCAST to determine the benefits of these sessions when compared with other schools with less sports sessions.
Alan Camilleri, FIFA assistant referee, was the special guest as he spoke about how sports has helped him improve his life while explaining the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Dr Angelo Chetcuti, the Malta FA General Secretary, was also present for the event and took the opportunity to highlight the fact that children can be active without the need of resources.
Dr Melanie Darmanin (Senior Lecturer at MCAST), Ivan Woods and Mark Gatt from Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation, Bernard Farrugia and Nicole Sciberras – one of the coaches that is leading the Fun Fit 5 sessions – were present for the event.
