Swieqi United bounce back to winning ways while Mġarr United clinched three important points in this week’s games from the Assikura Women’s League.
The Owls hit Mtarfa for 12 to cut the gap to six points from leaders Birkirkara after losing to the Stripes in their latest league encounter.
For this game, Swieqi deployed defender Rafanny between the sticks with Ghana goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan still unavailable due to the injury picked up against Birkirkara a fortnight ago.
Forward Salamatu Abdulai, who was making her Swieqi debut, grabbed a brace against Mtarfa. Abdulai, also a Ghana international, was born in 2004 and is at the back from spells in her native championship.
League top scorer Jade Flask added two more goals to her tally as she now leads with 18 goals.
Mariah Sciberras, Tatiana Hawkins and Fernanda Peinado scored two goals each as well with the other goals being registered by Jessica Dimech and a Paula Ciappara own goal.
Meanwhile, a second-half penalty by Kelly Agius Pace handed Mġarr three vital points over Hibernians as the race for the third place continues to heats up.
The Greens are now trailing the Paolites by just two points and with a game in hand, they are in the driving seat to pip Hibernians into third.
Raiders Lija are also eyeing a third place finish and with their San Ġwann victory, they are now three points behind Hibernians. Like Mġarr, Denis Guerra’s side have a game in hand as well and will face Hibernians in a couple of week’s time as well.
Against San Ġwann, Leah Ayres and Sarah Vella Barberi scored a brace each while Lexine Farrugia and Michela Bonello Ghio wrapped up the six-goal victory.
