Third place battle continues with Hibernians facing Raiders Lija
Swieqi United will be looking to keep their slim title hopes alive when they rub shoulders with in-form Mġarr United in the crunch match of Matchday 18 of the Assikura Women’s League.
The Owls sit second on 35 points, trailing leaders Birkirkara by six with three games left.
Should Judith Kuipers’ Swieqi fail to beat Mġarr, led by Michael Mangion, and Birkirkara clinch the three points against lowly Mtarfa, the Stripes would be declared champions for the 11th time.
Swieqi are at the back of a 6-0 win over San Ġwann with newcomer Salamatu Abdulai scoring twice. The Ghana international came during the winter transfer window and has been in a rich vein of form with both senior and U-21’s Swieqi teams.
Mġarr, on their part, are coming from two positive results as they look to cement their status as the third best team in this campaign.
The Greens followed up the Hibernians’ win of a fortnight ago with a comfortable 5-0 win over Raiders Lija, last week.
They sit third on 26 points and have a game in hand against Mtarfa, pencilled for April 11.
Meanwhile, Birkirkara will face Mtarfa as they look to close in on another domestic championship.
The Stripes survived a late scare to beat Hibernians 3-2 as they remain unbeaten in this 2022/2023 campaign.
On the other hand, Mtarfa served a bye last week and together with San Ġwann, they have only picked up three points this season so far.
Elsewhere, the race for a third-place finish see Hibernians and Raiders Lija involved as well with the two teams set to take on each other at the Centenary Stadium.
The Paolites put on a commanding showing in the second half against Birkirkara, losing narrowly 3-2 with Yolande Attard and Kayleigh Chetcuti scoring their goals.
Keith Gouder’s team are currently fourth on 25 points, looking to keep the heat on Mġarr.
Raiders Lija sit fifth, with 22 points and a game in hand but they will have to improve on last week’s disappointment in order to achieve a positive result and continue to strive to finish third in this campaign.
