The 27th Edition of the International Tour of Malta will be held between Friday and Sunday, where a good number of foreign participants, particularly women, are expected.
Over the years, this Tour served as a good opportunity for local cyclists to be able to compete with others from abroad in our own country. In this way, they not only gain from this experience, but they can also continue to improve their levels.
Once again, this Tour will be held under the auspices of the Maltese Cycling Federation and this year it will be supported by the Eastern Regional Council which is designated as ‘The European Sports Region for the year 2023’ from ACES – European Capitals and Cities of Sport.
The local Clubs together with several other foreign ones will have their cyclists compete in this year’s edition. The majority of foreign clubs come from France, Denmark, and Italy. Foreign cyclists from various other countries will also take part with them on an individual basis.
It should also be noted that in this edition we will have local Commissaires who qualified from the Course organised for the first time in our country by the UCI three years ago.
The International Tour of Malta 2023 will be held over three days spread and there will be four categories of cyclists taking part – the Elite, Juniors, the Women and the Masters over 40 years old.
The first stage will consist of an Individual Time Trial on the circuit of Fleur-de-Lys on a circuit of 2.5km per kilometer where all cyclists will make laps for a total distance of 15 kilometers. The second stage, on Saturday, will be a race on the San Martin circuit where the Elite will do 10 laps for a distance of 88 kilometers, while the Women and the Masters will do 6 laps for a distance of ‘ 53 kilometers. On Sunday, the last stage will be held, a race on the Haz-Zebbuġ Bypass circuit where the Elite will do 15 laps for a distance of 63.5 kilometers, while the Women and the Masters will do 12 laps for a distance of 43 kilometers. The departure of the three tapes will be at 8:00 in the morning.
The Organising Committee of the Tour has also called for the cooperation of the public in what is the closure of the roads so that these events can take place in the best possible safety for cyclists.
It went on to express its gratitude to SportMalta, the Maltese Olympic Committee, the Eastern Regional Council, J. Portelli Projects, Transport Malta, the respective Local Councils of Birkirkara, San Pawl il-Baħar and Haż -Zebbuġ, as well as to the Local Enforcement Systems Agency (LESA), ARRTS Timing System and the Palazzin Hotel and to all the participating clubs for their support.
