French rider Antoine Magaud sealed overall victory in the 27th Tour ta’ Malta with a fifth-placing in the final stage of the three-day competition on Sunday.
Daniele Lazzari and Catheline Ramone were the other winners in this year’s edition.
Holding a commanding lead at the top of the elite category, Magaud easily administered his advantage when he placed fifth in yesterday’s road race in Żebbuġ.
The French rider finished on top with an overall time of four hours, 16 minutes and 52 seconds. Simone Cerio, of ASD Team Simo Bike, place second in the overall standings when clocking 4:18.43 while Julien Amadori, of Team France Clubs Defense completed the podium on 4:19.21.
Sunday’s final stage consisted of 63.5km road race which was held in excellent weather conditions.
Here Bernard Galea, a Maltese cyclist who lives in England, won the race in one hour 35 minutes and 34 seconds after he prevailed in close sprint ahead of Damien Lapouges (Team France Clubs Defense) and Cerio.
The women’s category was won by Ramonet in 3.37:49. The French rider sealed her victory after topping the third and final stage in one hour and 33 minutes after prevailing in a sprint with Marie Claire Aquilina with Johanna Brocco finished just a few seconds behind.
Brocco placed second overall in 3.38:15 while Maltese rider Aquilina placed third, nine seconds behind.
The Masters’ category was won by Daniele Lazzari, of ASD Team Simo Bike, in a time of 3.06:07. Etienne Bonello of Team Greens place second while team-mate Joaquim Rojas took third in 3.06:57.
Sunday’s stage was won by Stefano Consigli, of ASD Team Simo Bike, in one hour, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds. who beat Etienne Bonello and Joaquim Rojas in a final sprint.
The Tour ta’ Malta was held under the auspices of the Maltese Cycling Federation and was supported by the Eastern Regional Council which is chosen as ‘The European Sports Region for the year 2023 ‘ from ACES – European Capitals and Cities of Sport.
