Watch: Nicolai Bonello leaps to new pole vault record with 4.45m effort

Nicolai Bonello continued to rewrite the record books in the pole vault category when the young athlete set his second national mark in the competition during Saturday’s Challenge Meeting at the Matthew Micallef St John Athletics track at Marsa.

Two weeks ago, Bonello had managed to set a new national best when he managed to leap to a 4.40 metres jump, bettering his own previous national best of 4.35 by five metres.

On Saturday, the young Maltese athlete continued to improve himself when he first cleared 4.41m and then he managed a leap of 4.45 metres.

No doubt, this result continues to rubberstamp the undoubted talent of Bonello who had managed to break a long-standing 16-year-old national record in the long jump and continued to further improve it in the past few months.

With the Minimum Qualifying Standard for the 2023 GSSE in Malta set at 4.60m, Bonello might still have some work to do to secure a place on the team but his latest performances certainly show that he is on the right track to achieve this objective.
