Malta player to face Tellus’ Chesterfield in National League play-off final
Jodi Felice Jones could not be happier after sending his club Notts County into the National League play-off final following a topsy-turvy semi-final tie against Boreham Wood.
Boreham Wood, who registered the best defensive record in England’s fifth tier, took a two-goal lead with Notts County looking to crash out in the semis.
However, the Magpies – who finished second despite recording a staggering 107 points in the regular season, cut the deficit to one before Jones came into action.
The Malta international produced an assist in the 97th minute to send the game to extra-time before firing a brilliant strike at the death to the delight of the home crowd.
“This moment is up there among the best in my career,” Jones told the club’s social media.
“The play-offs were always a difficult time for me and for my family because I was usually injured, so today tops everything.”
Asked about his impact on the field, Jones said that he was upbeat about his team’s chances of a comeback.
“The coach told me to be brave, take on the players, and have no regrets on the pitch,” he explained.
“I may have taken football for granted before I got injured, so I have adapted a never-say-never attitude.”
Jones also heaped praise on the fans who have backed them throughout the whole campaign and will flock into their thousands for Saturday’s showdown.
Notts County will be looking to make a return to the Football League after spending the past four seasons in the National League.
The Magpies will face Chesterfield who also have a Maltese connection in Justin Tellus.
The former Birkirkara player is currently their Academy Head of Recruitment and Development Officer.
