Balzan FC are in talks to sign Malta international midfielder Triston Caruana, the Times of Malta can reveal.
The 31-year-old midfielder was on the books of Valletta FC for the past three and a half years after moving to the capital club from Ħamrun Spartans.
However, Caruana’s contract expired at the end of this season and the veteran midfielder has since turned down an offer to sign a new deal with the Citizens as he is seeking pastures new.
Balzan quickly got in touch with the former Tarxien Rainbow and Hibernians player and Caruana is said to have been impressed by the Reds’ project for the future.
Added to that a move to Balzan would open the doors for Caruana to be able to play in Europe next summer as Balzan managed to take the final berth in the UEFA Conference League when they beat Hibernians 3-2 in a play-off earlier this month.
Should this transfer go through, Balzan will be securing the services of a very experienced and solid midfielder that has also been part of the national team setup for the past five years, after he was given his debut by former national coach Tom Saitfiet, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal.
Caruana came through the youth ranks of Hibernians before making his debut with the senior team in 2007.
Since then, Caruana played for Qormi, Tarxien Rainbows and Ħamrun Spartans before his move to Valletta.
