Trillo, Callegari leave Floriana FC

Argentine defender Emiliano Callegari and Italian wing back Lorenzo Trillo will not form part of Floriana’s squad next season as they were not retained by the Premier League club, the Times of Malta can confirm.

Callegari joined Floriana at the start of the 2021-22 season after he had spent the final part of the previous campaign on the books of Sirens FC.

The Argentine defender had helped the Greens to the runners-up spot in his first season with Floriana.

Last season, Callegari again featured prominently for Floriana, making 19 appearances and scoring one goal.

On the other hand, Trillo arrived at Floriana FC last summer and enjoyed a very positive season for the Greens, making 26 appearances, and more importantly was quite prolific in front of goal, netting three goals and providing four assists.

The departure of Callegari and Trillo forms part of Floriana to revamp their squad in the close season after a low-key campaign that saw the team fail to challenge for any domestic honours as well as being rarely in the race for a place in Europe.

The club is currently working hard to bolster their squad and the Greens have already completed their first signing of the close season following the acquisition of midfielder Dunstan Vella, who this season was on the books of Hibernians.
