
Maltese bowlers enjoyed success at the Mediterranean Championships as Sue Abela and Cynthia Frendo Duca secured in the women’s doubles event while Kayden Lagana and Mauro Anastasi took the bronze medal.
It was a very positive display from the Maltese bowlers who produced a strong showing in San Marino took extend Malta’s great tradition in the championships.
In the women’s competition, Frendo Duca and Abela needed a late rally to snatch the silver medal from the jaws of Greek duo Stavroula Stefanopoulou and Georgia Sagona.
Frendo Duca and Abela compiled scores of 344, 391, 416, 344, 333, and an impressive 455 score in the final game to end their commitments with a total score of 2,283 pins.
The Maltese pair finished just seven pins ahead of Stefanopoulou and Sagona who could only manage 2,276 pins.
The gold medal went to Cypriot duo Niki Schiza and Myria Kastori who won the competition with an overall score of 2,298 pins.
In the men’s competition, Lagana and Anastasi rolled in scores of 444, 466, 372, 424, 388 and 429 to place third overall with 2,523 pins, just ten ahead of Italian duo Davide Spagnoli and Marco Cesare Parapini who placed fourth.
French duo Gregory Rius and Loick Coolen won the event with an overall score of 2,687 pins ahead of Greek pairing of Stamatios Roros and Eleftherios Montsenigos in 2,608 pins.
