Borg and Gratil clinch trophies at RMGC Championship

Maltese golfer Andy Borg continued with his good form of late as after winning the Johnny Walker Scratch Challenge Cup, last weekend he was successful in the Royal Malta Golf Club Championship.

On the other hand, youngster Noah Gratil also had a positive weekend after winning the Centenary Plate.

Over 90 competitors competed for both the Championship and the Course Centenary Plate.

The Championship was played off scratch and the Plate was held with a handicap.

The 35 knots of wind did not seem to hinder the scores of two under from Ruud Critien and 69 from both Noah Gratil and Andy Borg after Day One.

The second day was just as windy, but the score kept pouring in with 66 from Noah Gratil, Andy Borg and Nicky Beck and another 66 from Ruud Critien but a further three players hitting in the sixties.

A tightly fought Day 3 was characterised by some rain to make it a little more interesting.

It was JJ Micallef who managed a 66 while Andrew Borg hit a 67. Aleks Vagimov scored 68 while Ruud Critien’s 70 wasn’t enough for him to retain the cup this year.

In fact, in the end it was Andy Borg who came out tops with a consistent three day with Ruud Critien in second and Noah Gratil in third.

The Centenary plate result was also very tightly-fought but no one could fend off the great weekend play of Noah Gratil giving him the edge over his competitors with a handicap of 2.
