Dan Petrescu will be travelling to Malta with the rest of the CFR Cluj squad on Tuesday after testing negative for COVID-19 ahead of their Champions League tie against Floriana.
Petrescu, the former Chelsea wing back, has been battling COVID-19 in
recent weeks and was also admitted to a Romanian hospital for care in recent weeks.
During that time the team was under the charge of assistant coach Valeriu
Bordeianu.
However, on Monday, Petrescu and the rest of the CFR Cluj squad underwent
another swab test ahead of their trip to Malta.
Results showed that Petrescu had tested negative, paving the way for the
former Romania international to lead the team for Wednesday’s match at the
Centenary Stadium
Croatian midfielder Damjan Djokovic, who also contracted COVID-19 in
recent teams, also produced a negative test and is available for the match.
However, Alexander Pajun, who was the first player to test positive for
COVID-19 on July 18, when CFR Cluj met Steaua Bucharest in a derby, has yet to
recover from the virus and will not form part of the Romanian squad.
CFR Cluj will be travelling to Malta on Tuesday and will hold their
pre-match training session at the Centenary Stadium at 9pm.
Petrescu is expected to address the media in a press conference at 7pm.
