Sirens have decided to part ways with Steve D’Amato and have appointed Giovanni Tedesco as their new first-team coach, the Premier League club
Earlier on Monday, the St Paul’s Bay outfit confirmed in a statement their decision to relieve D’Amato of his duties and have appointed the former Palermo coach.
“After much consideration about the progress of the team this season, Sirens FC came to a conclusion that a coaching change would be in the best interest of the team,” the club said in a statement.
“This was an extremely difficult decision; however, the club believes that it is necessary at this moment in time.
“Sirens would like to thank coach Steve D’Amato for his services and are grateful for all his hard work and dedication and wish him the best of luck for the future.
“The club will be announcing who will be the new coach in due course.”
Sirens immediately held talks with Tedesco and agreed personal terms before putting pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season, with an option to extend it further.
“Sirens FC would like to announce that they appointed Mr Giovanni Tedesco as Head Coach for the rest of the season,” the Premier League club said.
“Mr Tedesco requires no introduction to Maltese football enthusiasts because he has been coaching in Malta since he joined Floriana in 2014. He has also coached other Premier League Clubs, namely Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans, and Gzira United.”
Tedesco is set to make his debut as Sirens FC coach when they face Senglea Athletic, on Saturday.
