St Paul’s Bay side undergoing major squad revamp under new coach Winston Muscat
Sirens have confirmed their first signing of the new season when they signed goalkeeper Jonathan Debono, the Premier League club announced.
“Sirens Football Club are pleased to announce that Goalkeeper Jonathan Debono has agreed to join our club,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“Debono has vast experience in the Maltese Premier League joining from current champions Ħamrun Spartans.”
Debono will now take the no.1 jersey at the St Paul’s Bay club for the upcoming season following the departure of David Cassar.
The veteran goalkeeper enjoyed a positive season last term after forming part of the Ħamrun Spartans squad that were crowned Premier League champions after an absence of 30 years.
The 35-year-old arrives at Sirens FC with a baggage of experience as throughout his career he was on the books of several Premier League clubs which include Mosta FC, Floriana FC, Tarxien Rainbows and Gudja United.
Debono is just the first of a string of signings that the Premier League club are set to announce in the coming days.
In fact, coach Winston Muscat is looking to bring in players that are in line with the club’s long-term strategy.
Sirens, in fact, have also reached an agreement to sign wing back Jacob Walker.
The young full-back enjoyed a positive season with Sta Lucia FC and is now hoping of stepping up his career with the St Paul’s Bay club.
As reported by the Times of Malta, Sacha Borg has also joined Sirens while fellow defender Adrian Borg has again been reconfirmed for another season.
Upfront, Sirens have snapped up the services of veteran striker Alfred Effiong, whose contract with Balzan FC expired at the end of last season.
The St Paul’s Bay side have also secured the signature of Japanese winger Rei Tachikawa, who last term was on the books of Sta Lucia FC.
