The Malta Basketball national teams discovered their opponents in this summer’s European Championships for Small Countries.
The women’s team were handed a tough draw as they were drawn in Group A and will be up against Norway, Ireland and Andorra.
On the other hand, Group will be formed by Luxembourg, Cyprus, Gibraltar and Kosovo.
For the Maltese girls, the draw is quite tricky given that they will be up against two teams who are expected to challenge for a top-four placing in the tournament, namely Norway and Ireland.
The tournament is set to be held between July 20 and 25.
On the other hand, the men’s selection, who will be gunning to defend the gold medal they won in San Marino in 2018, will be competing in the continental championships who this year will be held in Dublin, Ireland, in a different format than in the past.
In fact, there are only five national teams who have confirmed their participation following the withdrawal of Azerbaijan and Armenia have opted out of the tournament. These withdrawals have forced FIBA to hold this year’s tournament on a round-robin format.
Malta will play their first match against San Marino on August 10 and then face Gibraltar the following day.
Andorra will be Malta’s third opponents on August 14 before the team completes its commitments on August 15 against hosts Ireland.
