Dylan Cachia took his second win on Wednesday, during the fourth race of the Garmin BSJ Open Water Swimming Championships in Salina.
The swimmer, who only recently established a new national record in the 400m freestyle swim at Tal Qroqq National Pool during the ASA Time Trials, demonstrated his prowess when he completed the 2km course in 22 minutes 52 seconds.
His time in his first appearance of the championships was 24 minutes three seconds.
Second to finish the race was Luca Vella, who’s time of 26:14 was just slightly below the previous race timings. Vella has been registering consistent performances throughout.
In third place was Caine Schembri who finished in 26.47
Sarah Demicoli retains her dominant streak in open water swimming.
Once again, few seconds separated her from Luca Vella, a repeat action from previous races. Her time was the same of the previous race, 26 minutes 19 seconds. Maya Schembri Rodgers claimed second place with a time of 27:20 ahead of Leah Satariano, who improved her placing to claim her first top three place in the championships. She finished the race in 29 minutes 8 seconds.
The next race of the Garmin BSJ Open Water Series will take place on Wednesday and will consist of a 4km swim.
The race is also part of the qualifying criteria necessary for those intending on taking part in the Garmin BSJ Malta – Gozo – Malta and Gozo – Malta Swims which will take place on August 28.
