Sarah Demicoli unbeaten in the fifth Garmin BSJ Open Water Swimming Championship Race

Dylan Cachia registers his third win

Sarah Demicoli asserted her position as the top female open water swimmer when she continued her unbeaten record in the fifth race of the Garmin BSJ Open Water Swimming Championships held in Salina last week.

Participants took part in a four-kilometre race which also served as a qualifying event for swimmers planning on taking part in the forthcoming channel swims the Garmin BSJ Malta – Gozo – Malta and Gozo-Malta Open Water Swimming competition.

Dylan Cachia and Sarah Demicoli were the front runners in their respective categories.

Cachia completed the four-loop course in 47minutes 46 seconds whilst Demicoli clocked a time of 55:32.

Second placed Luca Vella exited the water five seconds ahead of Demicoli. The two swimmers have practically been racing head-to-head throughout this year’s championships.

Completing the top three placings of the males’ category was Sean Wareing who clocked a time of 56 minutes 19 seconds in his only appearance of the championships.

Maya Schembri Rodgers and Nirvana Micallef clocked in second and third respectively.

The final race of the Garmin BSJ Open Water Swimming Championships will take place on Wednesday at 6pm in Salina.
