Maltese sailors Antonia Schultheis and Victoria Schultheis maintained their stranglehold on the 49ERFX class with another solid showing to remain clear at the top on Day 3 of the European Championships that are currently being held in Thessaloniki in Greece.
The two Maltese sisters continue to show great nerves of steel to fend off the pressure of the competition in Greece which are seeing them battling against the top sailors from around Europe.
Antonia and Victoria kicked off the day proceedings with a fourth placing in Race 6 before placing sixth in the following regatta.
The Malta Young Sailors Club duo struggled in the third race held on the day when they could only manage 20th place but they soon bounced back when they placed fourth on the final race of the day.
Those results enabled Antonia and Victoria Schultheis to remain at the top with 39 net points. They are well clear of second-placed Enia Nincevic and Mihaela de Micheli Vitturi, of Croatia who have 52 net points.
French duo Lara Granier and Amelie Riou are third in the standings on 57 net points.
In the men’s 49er class, Richard Schultheis and Max Korner failed to improve on their position on Day Three of competition.
Schultheis and Korner placed 17th in the day’s opening race before improving in the second regatta when placing 13th overall.
The two sailors recorded another two top 20 positions in the final two races of the day when ending their commitments when placing 17th and 15.
These results saw Schultheis and Korner slip down to 27th in the overall standings with 1010 points.
