Watch: Allegri delighted with Juventus’ performance against European champions

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was delighted with his team’s performance as the Turin giants claimed a vital Champions League victory when defeating holders Chelsea 1-0 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

A goal by Federico Chiesa in the opening seconds of the second half was enough to hand Juventus their second successive win in the group.

“We have played a very good match against the European champions,” Allegri said.

“Two matches, six points, zero goals conceded therefore it’s another step forward towards qualification.

“Technically we could have played better but we have controlled well in the game and we should have done better with a couple of counter-attacks. But in the end we have only conceded one shot on target to Chelsea.”

Allegri said that his decision to deploy Chiesa as a forward with Federico Bernardeschi turned out to be his trump card.

“Playing with three upfront I thought we could be more dangerous but then I put Chiesa upfront with Bernardeschi just behind him and we looked much better,” the Juventus coach said.

“I hope to recover Arthur just after the international break as Bentacur struggles when deployed alone in midfield. I was pleased with the performance of Manuel Locatelli who put in a great shift to keep Lukaku quiet.

“Juventus needs to win these matches and to do so you have to suffer and have the desire to claim these results. Tonight the boys did that against the European champions.”
