UEFA Goalkeeper B Course being held in Malta for the first time

The Malta FA Technical Centre is currently organising a UEFA Goalkeeper B Course.

This is the first-ever course of its kind being held by the MFA under the supervision of UEFA. Throughout the years there has been a gap when it comes to goalkeeper coach education.

Thus, the Malta FA Technical Centre has built upon the MFA Goalkeepers Level 1 Course to step up the level of the coaching standard on the Maltese islands with this new goalkeeping coaching specific course.

The course targets participants who are looking to develop an understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching football goalkeepers from the age of 14 until senior squads.

The UEFA B Goalkeeping Diploma is the highest goalkeeping licence in Maltese football and will give the holder the right to coach goalkeepers in senior squads up to the Maltese Premier League.

Such a course aims to create an engaging learning experience through interactive practical and theoretical sessions. All participants are holders of a UEFA C licence (or higher) and an MFA GK Level 1 licence.

The UEFA B Goalkeepers Course was launched on Monday, December 20 with the online presence of former Irish international goalkeeper and UEFA Technical Advisor, Pat Bonner.

Sixteen new candidates are attending this new course together with a further 16 candidates that are attending part of the course as an upgrade to their MFA Goalkeepers Level 2 Course.

The course is 100 hours long, with another 20 hours of micro-group work in respective clubs, spread over five months.

Assessment is in the form of modular tasks throughout the course, a formative task to be presented at the end of the course and practical assessment sessions.
