The SB20 Sailing National Championship 2021/2022 has turned the spotlight on the class that began five years ago and now boasts eight boats on the island.
The Association is now running in its 5th year and represents a growing fleet which as at today is the largest keel boat one design class in Malta.
With a very busy calendar, regattas have been organised in different locations in the Maltese Islands.
These weekend two-day events are organised in conjunction with the various local sailing clubs, namely The Royal Malta Yacht Club, Vikings Sailing Club, Malta Young Sailors Club, and Birzebbugia Sailing Club, and see the fleet visiting different sailing areas throughout the season.
The final regatta of the season was held on June 11 and 12 and took place along the Sliema coast. The chosen location meant that the regatta was well followed by the general public from the shores.
There was a lot of exciting close sailing for the second place as ‘Careful Now’ skippered by the seasoned Barry Hurley was always ahead in the seven races held throughout this weekend. ‘Careful Now’ secured the championship followed by Steve Carter’s ‘Team Chiara’ in second place and Jose Souto’s ‘Outlaw’ in third.
