Malta centre Kurt Cassar is set to remain in Serie B this coming season as he joined Sicilian side Virtus Ragusa.
The move, announced on Saturday, sees Cassar take on his fifth season as a professional basketball player, played entirely in Italy.
Speaking to the club’s media, Cassar praised coach Antonio Bocchino who helped make his move successful.
“I want to thank the club for the opportunity given, especially coach Antonio Bocchino of whom I already had great esteem, and the president Sabrina Sabbatini whom I have already gotten to know,” Cassar said.
“I am happy to be part of this ambitious project and I hope to give my best and receive a lot of satisfaction for this new basketball season. I can’t wait to start working and getting to know the staff and fans. We will see each other soon. Forza Virtus Ragusa! “
Cassar is said to have signed a contract with the Ragusa team earlier on in the week, content to have secured a new contract ahead of the new season. He joins on the back of a successful season at Talus Ruvo di Puglia.
The Malta centre played 34 games, hitting 45% from three-point range, and 80% from the line. He also averaged 7.1 rebounds every game.
However, a string of injuries held him back from doing more, eventually stopping him from joining the Malta National Team for this summer’s FIBA Small Countries Games as he rehabilitated an injured ankle.
