Ħamrun Spartans in talks with Birkirkara for Luke Montebello

Ħamrun Spartans are in talks with Birkirkara FC over the signing of Malta international forward Luke Montebello, the Times of Malta can confirm.

The Spartans have been looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the season and have been on the look out of bringing to the club established Maltese players.

This week the Spartans identified Montebello, who has two years left on his contract, as their main objective as they are looking to strengthen their forward line ahead of the start of the new season.

Sources have told the Times of Malta that the Spartans made an offer to Birkirkara for the Malta international which has been rejected by the Stripes.

Birkirkara have informed the Spartans of the sum of money they would be ready to accept to let Montebello leave the club and at the moment talks between the two clubs are ongoing.

At the moment the Spartans have not met the valuation set by Birkirkara but it is understood that there is not a big difference between the two clubs.

More negotiations are expected to be held once the Spartans return from their UEFA Conference League first leg tie Bosnian side Velez Mostar, which will be played on Thursday.

Montebello has been on the books of Birkirkara since 2017 and has established himself as a key member of the first team squad.

Last season, Montebello made 22 appearances with Birkirkara and scored 12 goals as the club finished fifth in the Premier League standings.
