Wolfsberger AC, Gżira United’s opponents in the UEFA Europa Conference League, have suffered a blow ahead of next week’s second leg as defender Luka Lochosvili is set to move to US Cremonese, in Serie A.
In recent days, the Georgian defender was linked with a move to Italian football and Wolfsberg’s coach Robin Dutt confirmed the transfer to Sky Austria before Saturday’s Bundesliga game against LASK.
Lochoshvili, 24, was expected to join Hellas Verona but instead he will move to newly-promoted side Cremonese for a reportedly fee of 1.6 million euro.
According to Austrian reports, Lochoshvili’s move means that centre back Dominik Baumgartner will remain at the club as Wolfsberg do not want to be deprived of two key defensive elements at once.
Lochoshvili played in last week’s first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League against Gżira, with the Maroons managing to secure an important 0-0 draw.
The Georgian defender, who played the full game, registered seven clearances, two interceptions, won seven of his nine duels and had a passing accuracy of 89%.
Gżira will host the Austrian outfit next Tuesday at the Centenary Stadium.
