England striker Kane set to undergo ankle scan on Wednesday

England captain Harry Kane is due to have a scan on his ankle, two days before his country face the United States in the World Cup, reports said on Wednesday.

Kane left the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday with strapping to his ankle after the 6-2 win over Iran but took part in a light training session on Tuesday.

The striker suffered the injury in the second half and was subbed after 76 minutes.

England boss Gareth Southgate said after the game that Kane’s withdrawal was a precaution.

But the striker was then spotted leaving the stadium with strapping around his ankle.

Kane has previously experienced problems with his ankles, missing 14 games in the 2016/17 season. He also missed four matches last season as a result of a separate ankle knock

Southgate will hope Kane’s scan results are positive as he prepares his team for the second game of the group stage.

Midfielder James Maddison missed the Iran match as he recovers from a knee issue, while defender Harry Maguire came off feeling ill on Monday.

Wilson did not train in a light session with the rest of the substitutes at England’s Al Wakrah training base on Tuesday, but is not considered a fitness doubt.

Gareth Southgate’s side face the Americans on Friday knowing that a victory would guarantee them a place in the knockout stage.
