
The record attendance for a women’s game in Malta of 1,053 people managed to leave its mark on the Manchester United clan.
The Red Devils rubbed shoulders with local champions Birkirkara in an international friendly which served them as a preparation game ahead of the second part of their domestic campaign.
For Manchester United, this was their final game before they resume their Women’s Super League appointments when they host rivals Liverpool on January 15.
Coach Marc Skinner and a trio of Manchester United players – captain Katie Zelem, Aoife Mannion, and Grace Clinton. were impressed with the women’s game following here in Malta with the Birkirkara fans flocking to the Tony Bezzina Stadium to cheer the 10-time Malta champions.
They heaped praise on the welcome that the local fans gave them while expressing their delight of playing a friendly game in front of a huge crowd.
Malta’s warm weather during the early days of January also played a big part in making this training camp a successful one for the Red Devils.
As for the game which Manchester United won 10-0, the coach and players pointed out that it was crucial for them to keep developing their playing philosophy in order to reach their objectives for the 2022/2023 campaign.
