St George’s and Żurrieq Futsal advanced to the Enemed Challenger League final after winning their respective semi-finals last weekend.
Żurrieq saw off Malta U19 10-4 in a very interesting encounter.
Although the final scoreline might suggest otherwise, the Malta U-19 side put on a strong challenge and it was only in the final stages of the match that Żurrieq cantered to victory.
Jose Mario Fernandes Mendes and David Ferreira de Almeida scored a hat trick apiece with Dale Vella scoring two goals. Boycho Marev and Alexei Saliba netted the other goals for Żurrieq.
On the other hand, Nathan David Balzan, Ivin Gatt, Denzel Camilleri and Kubilay Karadol were the scorers for the Malta U-19 side.
St George’s scored a 10-3 win over Marsaskala in the other semi-final.
Prolific scorer Karl Luke Schembri continued to confirm his potential as he scored five goals. Denzil Pisani and Faisal Alnakou netted twice each while Jovica Milijic rubberstamped the victory for St George’s.
Marsaskala reduced the margin through Amir Ashtiyani, Matthias Camilleri and David Sebastian Jimenez.
The Enemed Challenger League final between St George’s and Żurrieq will be played at the National Sports School Pavilion on Wednesday, starting at 8.45pm
